Barnett Selected to Attend Missouri Agribusiness Academy (MAbA)
Agriculture stands as a pillar of our nation's economy, with Missouri firmly entrenched in its core. It's imperative that the next generation carries forward the rich heritage and traditions that have shaped Missouri into the agricultural powerhouse it is today, while also equipping themselves with the necessary skills to sustain this legacy into the future. Since its establishment in 1988, the Missouri Agribusiness Academy has proudly welcomed 1,060 members through a rigorous selection process, recognizing their commitment to the agricultural field. Eligibility for this esteemed academy is extended to students hailing from farming families or actively engaged in organizations such as the National FFA Organization or 4-H. Congratulations are in order for Gracelynn Barnett, a member of Chillicothe FFA, for her selection to attend MAbA. Alongside her peers, Gracelynn will embark on a transformative journey from June 3-7, 2024, exploring various facets of agribusiness, seeking educational opportunities, and engaging with influential leaders in the Springfield area. The week's activities will culminate with a visit to Jefferson City, providing invaluable insights into Missouri's agricultural landscape and its pivotal role in shaping the state's economy. |
Three Members Chosen for Missouri FFA HYMAX Academy
We're excited to share that three outstanding members of our FFA chapter have been chosen to participate in the Missouri FFA HYMAX Academy. HYMAX chooses the Top 100 incoming sophomores to attend. These 100 FFA members will receive hands‐on experiences to prepare them to communicate, lead, and advocate for the agricultural Industry. FFA members will also learn from other FFA members about their chapter and how to better their SAE program. In addition, members will gain strategies to continue strengthening their knowledge base in agricultural issues, sharpen written and verbal communication skills, and spark potential career interests. Selected through a competitive application process, our three members have demonstrated exemplary leadership qualities, a strong commitment to agricultural education, and a passion for making a difference in their communities. |

Selected through a competitive application process that only selects the Top 30 incoming Senior members in the state, our three members have demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities, a strong commitment to agricultural education, and a passion for making a positive difference in their communities. Sixteen Members Achieve State FFA Degree, Honoring Dedication to Agricultural Excellence
We are excited to announce that sixteen Chillicothe FFA members have earned their State FFA Degree. This prestigious honor is a testament to their hard work, dedication, and commitment to excellence in agricultural education. Awarding of the degree is based on a member’s supervised agricultural experience program in agribusiness or production agriculture and leadership ability as demonstrated through involvement in FFA, school and community activities. The State FFA Degree award charms are sponsored by MFA Inc., Columbia. The State FFA Degree is the highest recognition a state can award, representing a select group of members, who have achieved a high-level of success,” said State FFA Advisor Keith Dietzschold. |
Sadie Burtch Impress Judges to Take 1st in Speech Contest
Chillicothe FFA member, Sadie Burtch, claimed victory at the FFA Pork Speaking Contest state finals held on February 20, as part of the 2024 Missouri Pork Expo. Her speech left a lasting impression on the judges, distinguishing her among the six finalists. To reach the state finals, Sadie, like her fellow competitors, had to first excel in her area and district contests. Sadie was awarded a plaque and a $200 check for her winning speech. PigTech and Chore-Time sponsored the FFA Pork Speaking contest during the Missouri Pork Expo at the Margaritaville Lake Resort in Osage Beach. This event attracted pork producers from across the state, offering a platform for networking, education, and showcasing the latest industry innovations. |

Community Celebrates Success of Chillicothe FFA Barnwarming 2023
The Chillicothe FFA recently crowned Braydon Cull and Jaiden Rodenberg as the 2023 Barnwarming King and Queen, marking a memorable moment for the organization. This annual event not only celebrates the achievements of its members but also serves as a fundraiser for the FFA's various activities and initiatives. The spotlight this year falls on the Sophomore class, which emerged victorious by raising an impressive total of $21,723. Their dedication and hard work translated into a remarkable class average of $434.46, showcasing their commitment to the cause. Following closely behind was the Freshman class, securing the second position with a commendable fundraising effort of $18,875.30 and an average contribution of $337.06 per member. |
Not to be outdone, the Junior class claimed the third position by
raising a total of $13,471, with an average donation of $313.28 per member. The Senior class, while not taking home the top honors, still contributed significantly, raising $8,908.83 with an average of $269.96 per member. |
Collectively, these efforts resulted in a record-breaking fundraising total of $63,978.13 for the Chillicothe FFA chapter. Such a substantial achievement would not have been possible without the unwavering support of the community. The Chillicothe FFA extends its heartfelt gratitude to all individuals and businesses who contributed to this success. Boo Fest A Success
Several Chillicothe FFA Litton Crusaders distributed 215 agriculture-related books, 150 coloring/activity books, 100 stickers, and candy to raise awareness for agriculture. The goal for the FFA chapter is to promote agricultural literacy and engage the community in celebrating the importance of agriculture. The event was a success thanks to the generosity and collaboration of all involved Special Thanks to American Family Insurance- Jack Willard for allowing us to set up outside of his business. |

Their willingness to take time out of their busy schedules is greatly appreciated by the FFA community. The Chillicothe Trap team once again displayed their outstanding skills and teamwork at the recent Area II competition, held on October 7th at the Trenton Trap Range.
Top Individual Performances
In the individual shooter category, Chillicothe Trap had a strong presence in the top 10. It was a fiercely competitive field, but our team members delivered remarkable performances:

The event, held in honor of the late Tom Burtch, a passionate supporter of FFA and trapshooting, brought together talented marksmen from across the region.
Chillicothe's High School Squad, consisting of Ethan Davis, Landon Bradley, Timothy Summers, Andrew Campbell, and Braydon Cull, secured a remarkable 2nd Place finish. Their teamwork and precision were truly commendable.
In the Post-High category, Chillicothe soared to victory with two standout squads. The 1st Place Post-High Squad, composed of Wade Horton, Kale Campbell, Josh Meservey, Trace Rardon, and Tucker Burtch, demonstrated remarkable marksmanship. The 2nd Place Post-High Squad, featuring Porter Ficken, Lance Clark, Carter Crawford, Carson Rhodes, and Carson Crawford, also exhibited exceptional skills.

Hit-To-Get-Fit Raises $1350 for Cancer Assistance Program

The annual Mud Volleyball event, a favorite among locals, raised an impressive $1,350, all of which has been donated to the Livingston County Cancer Assistance program. The Mud Volleyball event has become a beloved tradition in Chillicothe, offering an opportunity for the community to come together, get dirty, and show support for those in need. The Chillicothe FFA, comprised of dedicated students passionate about agriculture and community service, has been organizing this event annually to raise funds for a charitable cause. This year, the chosen beneficiary was the Livingston County Cancer Assistance program, a local organization that provides vital support to individuals and families battling cancer. The program offers financial assistance for medical expenses, transportation, and other essentials, easing the burden on those affected by this devastating disease. The success of this year's Mud Volleyball event reinforces the Chillicothe FFA's commitment to making a positive impact on the community. AMERICAN DEGREE: This is the highest degree an FFA student can acquire. To apply for this degree, a student must demonstrate the most outstanding involvement within the chapter and provide records of their supervised SAE project, which should display their ability to plan, manage, and finance with expertise. This degree is difficult to earn, but worthy of the hard work. The full list of requirements to apply for this degree are:

- Have maintained detailed SAE records, which demonstrate outstanding planning, managerial, and financial skills.
- Have earned and productively invested at least $7,500, or have earned and productively invested at least $1,500 and worked 2,250 hours beyond scheduled school hours through their SAEs.
- Effective Jan. 1, 2015: A student after entering agricultural education must have: (a.) Earn at least $10,000 and productively invested $7,500 or (b.) Have earned and productively invested at least $2,000 and worked 2,250 unpaid hours in excess of scheduled class time; Any combination of hours, times a factor of 3.56 plus actual dollars earned and productively invested must be equal to or greater than the number 10,000. Hours used for the purpose of producing earnings reported as productively invested income shall not be duplicated as hours of credit to meet the minimum requirements for the degree.
- Have a record of outstanding leadership skills. Have completed at least 50 hours of community service within at least three different community service activities. These hours are in addition to the paid or unpaid supervised agricultural experience hours.

Chillicothe FFA received word that they are again the winners of the MO State Fair Governor's Best Award for the most livestock exhibited at the State Fair by a chapter. They were also the number one chapter exhibitors of swine and beef at the fair this year. Proud of all of our livestock exhibitors. Way to go!!

Barnett, Graves, & Thompson Attend HYMAX AcademyHYMAX is a youth leadership conference designed for promising ninth grade students to reach their full potential! Chillicothe FFA members Gracelynn Barnett, Beau Graves, and Luke Thompson were chosen through an application process to attend this years academy. FFA members attending HYMAX will be prepared for future leadership roles, agricultural career exploration, and advocacy for agriculture. In addition, you will gain key strategies for SAE development, written and verbal communication skills, and career development. Most importantly, you will bring home tools to help you and your chapter achieve greater success!
The HYMAX will further motivate Agricultural Education freshmen students during a weekend-long leadership conference. It will provide a foundation in agricultural leadership and prepare you to embrace agricultural and leadership opportunities throughout your high school career. |
